Why You Should Book at Trip to Colombia + 7 Tricks to Keep Food Fresh Longer
Then learn about the cocktail that might just be *the* drink of 2023.
Happy Monday and happy Galentine’s day to all who celebrate that glorious Parks and Recreation-inspired occasion!
When we last connected, I was on my way home from a week-long vacation in Cartagena. If you’d like a day-by-day tour, you can “travel” with me through the whole Undiscovered Sunsets-coordinated adventure via my Instagram Story highlight labeled “Colombia.” (By the way, I round up all of my Stories from trips into a highlight, so if you’re seeking inspiration for your next departure, feel free to click around!)
During my 7 days in the South American country, I tried 16 fruits I had never eaten or even heard of before, took my first salsa dance class, discovered that I actually do enjoy coconut, made 4 new local friends, had private guides join me on walking tours to learn more about 2 historic districts within Old Town Cartagena, stayed at 2 breathtaking properties and enjoyed one of the best massages of my life. And I learned so much about this vibrant, evolving, history-packed country.
If you’re on the fence about booking a trip, I highly recommend you take a peek at that Instagram highlight and keep it top-of-mind because Cartagena is:
Easy to get to from the U.S.; my agenda from the Midwest involved two 3-hour flights
In the Eastern time zone, so you need not sacrifice time adjusting
Overflowing with history, culture and color
Part of the most biodiverse country on the planet
Home to creative, affordable and unique food and drink
Beautiful consistently this time of year, with sunny conditions and highs of about 85 to 90 degrees daily
Honestly, I knew very little about Colombia before my friend/travel advisor Whitney of Undiscovered Sunsets recommended it, but I left with a whole new appreciation for this place and its people. Do you have any questions about the trip — or perhaps highlights from your time in Colombia that you’d like to share? Drop them in the comments!
What to Read…
I dove back into writing the day after I returned stateside, and discovered many previously-submitted stories had been published, so I have a diverse mix of new content to share this week.
First, we were able to break the news about pistachio martinis; as far as I could tell, no one had reported on this buzzy drink yet. But all signs point to the fact that it might swoop in and take Negroni Sbagliato’s crown as the cocktail du jour—check out the first link below to find out why, and how to make one at home.
Then read on to find out why gochujang might just be the ingredient your snickerdoodle cookies have been missing all along, to learn how and why a 10-minute post-dinner walk can have such a massive impact on your health, and to score the ultimate guide to optimize your food storage so you can waste less and enjoy more.
